Introduction of Han Academy

 

 

1.        Education Philosophy

Han Academy is a private school with a high-level Chinese language and literature education and the highest academic standards in other subjects. It provides unique school based curriculum and international curricula. It aims at developing students’ bilingual abilities and fostering their national identity and international mindedness.  It strives to be a great model in education standards and practice in the HK society.

It will establish partnership with excellent primary schools, middle schools and universities, so as to build up a new platform - Global School for spreading Chinese culture to the world.

 

3.           School Management and Teaching

Han Academy is founded by Happy Life Education Foundation Limited.  Happy Life Education Foundation Board consists of professionals with full passion for education and great commitment. They include a group of accomplished specialists and scholars in the disciplines of education, history, humanities, mathematics, science, arts and sports.

 

Our Management Team is composed of the Board of Directors of Happy Life Education Foundation, members of School Committee, senior staff members of the school, teacher representatives, parent representative and community representatives who are involved directly in the decision making and routine management of the school. Happy Life Education Foundation selects highly professional, experienced and qualified teachers and management staff worldwide. Teachers of Chinese language and literature are selected from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan where Chinese language is the mother tongue while the teachers of English language come from Europe and America, Australia and Hong Kong where English is spoken. Administration staff are selected from Hong Kong.

5.           Diverse Curricula:

5.1  Curriculum for primary school (G1-G6)

 

A curricular system is established for primary school with reference to Cambridge Curriculum, IB PYP frameworkthe School is applying for the IB Certificateand Chinese National Curriculum. The school prepares teaching materials and both Chinese and English are the medium of instruction. Chinese lessons are taught in Mandarin. Both simplified and traditional Chinese characters are accepted.

The ratio of Chinese and English in teaching changes from 8:2 to 5:5 from lower primary to higher primary. While helping students’ lay a solid foundation in Chinese, our system also prepares them readily in English for their further study of international courses in secondary school.

     •  Formative and summative assessments are both implemented.

     •  Pupils in primary school develop their diverse interests and enthusiasm for exploration and are trained to have a good awareness of team cooperation, time management and self-motivated learning.

     •  All primary school graduates will take end-of-primary exams of the school before entering into  secondary school when passing the exam.

  


5.2 Secondary School Curriculum (G7 – G11)

 

IGCSE and IB DP syllabi (the School is applying for IB Certificate) and curricula are provided. Both Chinese and English languages are medium of instruction. Chinese lessons are taught in Mandarin.

The ratio of Chinese and English in teaching changes from 4:6 in Secondary 1 to 2:8 in Secondary 5 gradually, preparing students for a better foundation in Chinese and English.

   •  All secondary school graduates take IGCSE and receive International General Certificate of Secondary Education when passing the exam.


5  5.3 High school curriculum (G12-G13)

IB DP (the School is applying for IB Certificate) and A Level are adopted as our main curricula. Bilingual teaching continues and the ratio of Chinese and English languages in teaching is 1:9. Chinese lessons are taught in Mandarin. Students can apply to study in Hong Kong and overseas universities with DP or A Level exam results.

Additionally, AP courses will be taught.

    •  High school graduates can choose to take A-Level exams and receive Cambridge certificates to study in Hong Kong or overseas universities.

    •  High school graduates can choose to take AP Exam and receive AP certificates to study in the USA.

 






































6.     Strategic Partnership

The school is applying to CIE and IBO for introducing IGCSE, IB curricula, and we will soon apply for College Board for introducing AP curricula.

 

7.     Admission Policy:

7.1 The school will enroll students based on their academic level, conduct, interview performance, non-academic achievements, family background and other relevant factors.

7.2  Under the same conditions, the following students enjoy the priority of admission:

8.      Admission Plan in 2017

•  Grade for admission: G1 -G11.

•  Small classes: no more than 16 students in one class in primary school, teacher and students ratio is 1:8; no more than 20 students in one class in secondary school, teacher and students ratio is 1:10.

•  Fees: Tuition fees include all compulsory courses and other courses, subject tutoring, competition training and other expenses.

•  Tuition fee: Primary school annual tuition fee is HK$198,000 ,and Secondary school annual tuition fee is HK$208,000.

•  Discounts for those that brothers and sisters are enrolled at the same time: 2 kids, 5% discount; 3 kids or above, 10% discount.

•  Others: the initial fee paid for registration is not refundable and will be converted to the tuition fee for the first semester.

 9.     Capital bonds

•  In order to raise fund for school operation, Happy Life Education Foundation is issuing education bonds for 2017  capital bond, classified into 2 kinds of private bond and corporation bond as listed below:
•  Private bond at HK$3,000,000/per unit, entitled to one school place admission priority.
•  Corporation bond at HK$3,000,000/per unit, entitled to one school place admission priority.
•  The capital bond will not be refunded, bears no interest and should be kept at least one year before any transfer.
•  Each bond bearer has the right to nominate any student to apply to Hong Kong Han Academy. The student will   have the priority to be admitted when passing the entrance examination.
•  The capital bond nomination right also applies to any one of the schools operated under Happy Life Education Foundation in future.
•  The bond can be transferred 3 months after the student leaves or graduates from the school. The transfer price will be decided between the bearer and the buyer only, but both the bearer and buyer are obligated to report to the Happy Life Education Foundation for record and pay for transfer fees. Any profits, if have,  shall be shared equally by the bearer and Happy Life Education Foundation.
•  The number of bonds are limited on a first come first served basis. The issuing price is subject to change without further notice.
